Course Description

Introduction to the use of analytics in business contexts, including data-driven decision-making and performance optimization in areas such as finance, management information systems, marketing, international business, accounting, and economics.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Frame problems in business sub-domains
  • Frame problems in a domain as an analytics problem
  • Apply descriptive analytics in business sub-domains
  • Apply diagnostic analytics in business sub-domains
  • Apply predictive analytics in business sub-domains
  • Apply prescriptive analytics business sub-domains
  • Analyze unstructured data in business sub-domains – content analysis (e.g., text, video, sound, picture)
  • Communicate insights using sub-domain-specific best practices

Course Assignments

The course contains the following graded assignments in the following categories:

  • Quizzes – In each module, you will have at least one quiz on the opening content about the sub-domain area and problem framing.
  • DA Application Projects – In each module, you will have at least one DA Application project where you practice data analytics within the sub-domain area.
  • Communicating Findings – In each module, you will have the opportunity to practice communicating your findings, whether through written reports, presentations, and/or infographics.
  • Learning Insights Journal – At the end of each module, you will write a brief reflection of your learning. At the end of the course, you will create a final Learning Insights presentation where you share a summary and synthesis of your learning throughout the course.
  • Other Assignments – Other assignments are used throughout the course to enhance your learning and engagement.
